Abstract
Background:Prostatic abscess is an uncommon, the presenting symptoms are non-specific. But it is potentially serious disorder with a mortality rate of 3 to 16%, the early diagnosis and appropriate use of effective antibiotics with drainge is important.

Methods:we retrospectively reviewed 6 cases of prostatic abscess treated during an 5-year period at an university hospital in Korea.

Results:Most of patients were elderly (mean age, 68 years) with hypertension (2, 33%), benign prostatic hypertrophy (2, 33%) or diabetes mellitus (1, 17%). The symptoms were myalgia (67%), fever (50%), dysuria (33%), residual urine sense (33%). All causative pathogens were gram-negative bacilli, including Klebsiella pneumoniae (3, 50%), Klebsiella oxytoca (1, 17%), Escherichia cofi ( I , 17%) and Proteus mirabilis (1, 17%). Five cases (83%) had ampicillin resistance. Two cases had undergone invasive procedures, including tansurethral resection of the prostate, transrectal catheter drainge.

Conclusions:The most common pathogen was Klebsiella pneurnoniae. when old ages had nonspecific urinary symptoms, fever although empirical antibiotics, we should take transurethral ultrasonography, computor tomography for evaluating prostatic abscess.
